To whom allegiance?

Like most of us, I have sworn allegiance to the flag of the United States of America many thousands of times. Not once have I done so lightly. Not once have I done so with an ulterior motive or hidden agenda. When I read the Declaration of Independence, or the Bill of Rights, or the Constitution of the United States, I still recognize the reasons for my stated loyalties.

As I consider the actions of the executive branch, the sell out of the legislative branch, and the judicial activism undertaken by the liberal federal judiciary, I am beginning to question my allegiances. My family members have fought and died to protect rights that the White House has signed away in the stroke of a pen. My hard earned money is taxed at a ruinous rate to support illegal immigration, foreign abortion, and domestic pork.

As I salute the Stars and Stripes, as my eyes well with tears for the sacrifices of my father, grandfather, and before, I wonder. Did my great great grandfather swear allegiance to George III before he supported the Revolution?

Did the patriots of that day long ago hide their musket rifles from the bandits or from the government? Have I left the love of my nation? Or has my nation left me?
