I should quit guessing
Okay. The Lord didn't rapture the Church THIS Rosh Hashanah. I stand by the symbolism the Feast of Trumpets may communicate. Of course, if the eschatological variants that include mid-trib, post-trib and pretorist 1st Century fulfillment could all take heart there was no rapture yesterday. I'm still looking up. I still don't know when, but I sure hope Jesus Christ comes quickly!

Look Up Tuesday/Wednesday
Okay. I risk a great deal of credibility with this blurb, but I have to ask the question, "What if Tuesday or Wednesday, 09/30/08, or 10/01/08 is the timing of Christ's Rapture of the Church?" I ask the question after a good deal of study and pondering.
First, I am a pre-tribulation believer in the Rapture of Christ's church. So, the issues of mid-trib, post-trib, pretorist, or other schools don't apply. I believe the next major event in God's dispensation to Christ's Church is the rapture described in 1 Thessalonians 4: 16& 17, "For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. 17Then we who are alive and remain will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we shall always be with the Lord." (NASB)
You will quote to me Christ's words, "No man will know the day or the hour..." I grant that, and believe it, too. However, since the earth is a sphere, and since Christ's Church will be raptured from all parts of the globe at one instant, it isn't possible to "know" the exact day or hour, because it will vary all over the globe.
Why Tuesday or Wednesday? Depending on which side of the international date line you live, and depending on in which time zone you live, the "instant" will occupy both days and up to 24 potential "hours." But Tuesday marks the beginning of the Jewish High Holy Day, "Rosh Hashanah." The feast of trumpets. It is a poetic fit with the Thessalonians passage.
More importantly, each of the Jewish High Holidays has been fulfilled in the ministry of Jesus Christ, with the seventh to be fulfilled being Yom Kippur, "The Day of Atonement." The feast of trumpets would be an appropriate scriptural basis for the Rapture of the Church, as the Crucifixion was a an appropriate animation of the Passover Festival (the Lamb of God provided the sacrificial atonement).
Why this year? I don't know, but so many prophetic pointers indicate imminent threat to the Nation of Israel. America's fall as the world's hyper power also seems imminent. The truth is, I spend every Rosh Hashanah looking up. It's my private prayer and expectation of the Lord.
It isn't private this year because of my experience with a false salvation. I accepted head knowledge and intellectual assent to the Gospel of Jesus Christ without repenting or surrendering to Him. It took me 18 years to reach the point that the intellectual assent was met with surrender and real salvation. Because of my own testimony, I fear for my children, friends, and family.
If He comes Tuesday, this is an urgent matter! It is true, Christ said repeatedly, "Believe, and you will be saved." But He also said, "Repent." Repentance was the critical misstep for me. Is it for you?
The truth is I wanted a Savior. I wanted to avoid hell. At the time I first wanted a Savior, I didn't really want a Lord. I didn't really want to follow only Him. I do now, and I hope you read this as a sober warning. If you are reading this blog, it is no accident. This is a divine appointment, and one about which you must make a decision. And "no decision," avoidance or procrastination are all negative decisions.
Please don't wait. Look up.
Of course, I could be wrong about next Tuesday. I have been for years. But, it could happen. If you read this, and I am gone, find a Bible, anywhere, and go read the Book of John in the New Testament. I promise your time won't be wasted.
And about that election--vote absentee!

Sarah Brady vs. Sarah Palin!+++
If I thought I like Sarah Palin before, an attack from Sarah Brady sure cemented my feelings. This crap is from the Brady bunch website and newsletter:

Close Down the Gun Lobby's Office in the White House!
Support the Brady Campaign now!
Dear David,
Sarah Palin makes me nervous. The NRA gave her its highest rating during her run for Governor. In a candidate questionnaire for Governor, she equated gun control as being as much of a threat to families as drugs and gangs!
With the Republican nomination of lifetime NRA member Sarah Palin for Vice President, the NRA has just what it's looking for to keep its White House office open.
You remember, don't you? Before the 2000 election, an NRA Vice President gloated to his members that with George W. Bush as President, "We'll have . . . a president where we work out of their office!"
The Brady Campaign needs your support to close down the gun lobby's "office" in the White House. The election is just weeks away. I need your help now to defeat those who will do the gun lobby's bidding and elect those candidates who support sensible gun laws that protect you, your family and your community.
Please contribute to the Brady Campaign today. Thank you.
Best regards,

For Bill Maher
Sarah Palin would be a great VP. She and her family do not exist for your sick, self-indulgent fun.
Obama is a euro-trash international socialist (Harvard Sub-species). He is a puppet of George Soros and would prove to be a ruinous leader of the country.
He would quickly reduce the world leadership Bush has established to a well-loved and never-feared sub-power who the NY Times and The Guardian would fawn over as the reborn republic.

James 1:1-12 Trials & Temptations
Trials and Temptations. Yuk. I thought Christian life was going to be like summer camp or at least like a small town camp meeting, all music, and light and laughter. That’s not the Christian life depicted in the New Testament. There is humor and drama, but there are mostly trials and temptations.
So, what’s the difference in a trial or a temptation? Both the temptation to sin and the trial to be endured in this passage are based on the same Greek root word, meaning “To test or prove.” So, what James is explaining here is that the differences are these:
A trial is appointed by God. 1 Cor. 10:13, “No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man; and God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, so that you will be able to endure it.”
Do you see the difference? The trial is 40 days without food. The temptation is the devil’s suggestion to the human form of Christ that He should turn the stones into bread.
The trial was real and it hurt. The temptation was also real, but could be avoided. Temptations can be avoided but not ignored. If you attempt to ignore a temptation, it will jump up and surprise you. Your flesh loves to do that to you. We have to get aggressive with our sin patterns. The Lord said figuratively, “If your hand offends, cut it off.”
In verse 14, the phrase, “…he is carried away and enticed by his own flesh…” is the Greek word for “drawn away” as in the use of a bait to lure a wild animal into a snare or trap. A “desire” is any lust of the flesh that causes the believer to stumble into sin. It can be sexual lust, lust for money (greed), approbation lust (the lust for the approval of people), or covetousness for anything someone else has that you don’t have. The sin process starts with this desire of the flesh. It then begins to metabolize in your soul as a sin of the mind, a sin of the tongue, or a sin of action. And they all happen in a dark place in the soul.
If you are very sensitive to the Holy Spirit, you’ll see or hear the warning sign of that temptation of the flesh. You see, we get a warning before the sin happens. We have a thought that is going to grow up to be a sin if it isn’t arrested at that point. A friend of mine is always saying, “A believer always come from a state of righteousness into sin, so a believer has to plan his sin.”
So Trials and Temptations are very different. Trials come from God. Temptations come from our flesh. But have you ever noticed how often they come together? If the trial is the death of a family member, so often it is immediately accompanied by the flesh tempting us into self pity, anger, or even greed. How many families are split over the way the estate is divided? The trial and then the temptation.
If the trial is long term illness or injury—very serious pain to be endured for years, it may come with the same temptations to self pity, anger, or bitterness.
If the trial is financial loss, count on its being accompanied by the temptations of self pity, anger, greed, coveting, etc.
If the trial is financial success, look out. It may be followed by narcissism, arrogance, or even approbation lust or materialism.
If the trial is persecution, you should expect temptations to self pity, anger, bitterness, revenge or hatred. And these are just the beginnings of these sin patterns. They can result in full born sins of malice in adultery, murder, maligning, gossip or theft.
Failing to avoid a temptation and its ultimate sin cannot cause a believer to lose his or her salvation. But it can cost you your physical life. 1 John 5:16 & 17, “If anyone sees his brother committing a sin not leading to death, he shall ask and God will for him give life to those who commit sin not leading to death. There is a sin leading to death; I do not say that he should make request for this. All unrighteousness is sin, and there is a sin not leading to death.” Caution young people.
When I think about trials and temptations, it seems to me that both are always going on, but it seems to me that America had an era of trial that ran from about World War I until the end of World War II. It’s had an era of temptation that ran from the end of World War II through the present day.
Because Trials are from God, and prove us To God, they are for our good. Romans 5:3-5, “ And not only this, but we also exult in our tribulations, knowing that tribulation brings about perseverance; and perseverance, proven character; and proven character, hope and hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us.”
Here’s a caution though. So often, doesn’t it seem that when we have passed a test, and we’re in that glorious glow of obedience and the love of God being poured into us, that we are so very vulnerable to a temptation of the flesh? Be very careful immediately after a victory. I think most believers are least on guard then.
Conclusion. Light and happiness result when a trial is endured or a temptation is rejected. Either way, we win. When we are in the light, we are in God’s purpose, taking tests, passing some, resisting temptation—then failing, falling into darkness, confessing, coming back into the light and being God’s children.
Darkness is a nothing. Light is a something. I’ve always thought it humorous that it is fashionable in post christian America to say that you are “agnostic.” The academics will tell you that it means they see know empirical evidence of God. But the greek root of their “agnostic” means “don’t know.” Another way to say that would be “an expert on nothing.” “I know nothing. That’s what I believe.”
Light defines darkness and is the substance worthy of our study and focus. Light is beauty and glory. Light is truth and right. Our Father of Lights has but one purpose for us, that we would fall in love with His light. Where is the light to be found? In the face of Jesus. God’s purpose for us is that we get “Blessed,” that we get happy, that we get joyful about WHOM He Is.
I want to quote from Sam Storm’s little book, ONE THING.
“Enjoying God sounds good, but it needs substance. What exactly does it mean to ‘relish and enjoy Jesus?’ When I first began to explore this question, I experienced great frustration …I turned to the thesaurus. You were made to be:
This is a wonderful list and a start at how we can appreciate the Glory of God, the Light of God. I want to look at just one more scripture to close. Here’s a light we can all look forward to admiring. Revelation 22:5, "And there will no longer be any night; and they will not have need of the light of a lamp nor the light of the sun, because the Lord God will illumine them; and they will reign forever and ever.”

- A trial must be endured by the believer.
- There is happiness and light when a believer is victorious in a trial.
- God does not appoint temptations, but He allows them. A temptation cannot come from God. They always come from the flesh.
- A temptation is anything in the world that causes the flesh to weaken and start the sin process.
- When a temptation completes its course in weakened flesh and sin, there is darkness, guilt, shame, and possibly, physical death.
Do you see the difference? The trial is 40 days without food. The temptation is the devil’s suggestion to the human form of Christ that He should turn the stones into bread.
The trial was real and it hurt. The temptation was also real, but could be avoided. Temptations can be avoided but not ignored. Where to run?
I taught a Sunday School lesson on the prophet Jonah yesterday. Most fascinating to those involved in this dialog was the concept of a man of God running from God. It's clear, though. It's right there in the text. Jonah even admits to the sailors that he is "fleeing the presence of God." What a concept. And this from a prophet who must have known David's Psalm 139, "...where can I go from Your Spirit, where can I flee from your presence?"
The sailors may have thought they could run from the revenge of a Baal or Dagon, but a prophet of Yahweh certainly should have known God is omnipresent. There must be something more here. As in, Jonah ran, knowing he would not evade God, but that he would physically demonstrate the rebellion of his heart.
Jonah hated the Ninevites. While God's mercy was directed to a merciless people, Jonah wanted none of that. His action spoke volumes. His action said to God, "I know what You want. I know what You've commanded. I know you will win. But, this is my ultimate act of defiance. Kill me, but don't send me with the message of Salvation to these hated people."
How much is my own flesh like Jonah's? I know the path of repentance. I know what obedience requires. Yet, I plot and plan my sin like a bank robber. Even as I make way for the lusts of the flesh, the original rebellion continues bubbling into the scene, stating my suicidal defiance in the face of a loving and compassionate God. As Solomon stated, "It is vanity. All is vanity...at end, fear God and keep His commandments." Why can't I get this?

Texas Business Margin Tax
Well, it’s here. It’s June 16, and the new Texas business margins tax is due to the comptroller. Even as the comptroller’s office is still trying to figure out their own system, many of Texas’ small businesses are trying to figure out how to pay the tax.
The increase for my business over the previous franchise tax is more than 1,000 percent. It’s hard not to be bitter at the government for that. It will simply reduce our employment, our charitable giving and increase costs to our clients.
We are willing to pay more than we were. We would gladly pay double the franchise tax, but more than 1,000 percent increase? They said they would use a fair tax on Texas businesses to reduce property tax. Did your tax bill go down? Mine did not.
The Legislature should rescind this ruinous tax. It will kill many small businesses. To be fair, our state representative, Harvey Hilderbran, was one of the few to see the impact on Texas’ most important employers and vote against the Margins Tax bill.
It is common knowledge that most of the employment in our nation is by small businesses. Sen. John Cornyn stated recently that more than 30 percent of the new jobs in the U.S. happened in Texas. That huge contribution to the economy happened before this draconian tax measure made it out of committee.
Gov. Perry should call a special session to rectify this suicidal tax measure.

Is Castell, Texas anti Christian?
The attacks continue. When the Castell people can't articulate reasonable arguments, they resort to attacking good hearted people doing a good work.

Is the State of Texas right?
The Houston Chronicle reports that Texas department of Child Protective Services has now expended $7.5 million in the removal of children from the polygamist compound in Eldorado.
"We can't wash our hands from it — we're the ones who did it," said state Sen. Bob Deuell, R-Greenville and another Senate Finance Committee member. "I hope it turns out it was the right thing to do."
Bottom line, citizens of the great State of Texas are asked to trust that the bureaucrats have it all right this time. No question, child abuse, polygamy, and sexual abuse have to be investigated and prosecuted where warranted. For me the question is, "When did we start invading private property and making wholesale seizures of children and material a practice of jurisprudence in Texas?'
The Chronicle seems to be starting to ask the right questions. Fox News continues to press for details of the heinous crimes. Are we assuming all the parents are guilty? Are we assuming that all the children are victims? If we aren't, why did we have a wholesale invasion of private property, and how will each family's rights be protected?
"We can't wash our hands from it — we're the ones who did it," said state Sen. Bob Deuell, R-Greenville and another Senate Finance Committee member. "I hope it turns out it was the right thing to do."
Bottom line, citizens of the great State of Texas are asked to trust that the bureaucrats have it all right this time. No question, child abuse, polygamy, and sexual abuse have to be investigated and prosecuted where warranted. For me the question is, "When did we start invading private property and making wholesale seizures of children and material a practice of jurisprudence in Texas?'
